Don't Rush

Abraham, Sarah and Hagar - A pot mix of mess

My Dad said something in one of the meetings we held recently, he said when one time he was contemplating taking a particular step, after he had prayed concerning a matter and he made no headway, he felt that taking this step was going to be his only way out. God asked him; "Do you think I can't do this thing for you?" he answered in his heart.

"God, I know you can do it, it's just that your own takes time"

It sounded funny, because most of us could relate with it. And partly it's the truth:

It can be very hard to wait on God because His timing is really very different from ours. But the reason is: He is working with His plan, not ours.

And we must train ourselves to work at his own pace, if not we'd get frustrated at how long he's taking and it may make us try to rush past him, and then we will end up making the mother of all messes.

That's how I can describe the mess Abraham made by sleeping with Hagar and bearing Ishmael. It was a generational mess that we're still suffering from till today. That's how lasting the mess we make can be. It may not only complicate our lives, but those of others around us.

Rushing past God will always be a messy deal.

In Sarah's case, She knew God only as much as Abraham had related God to her. There was little or no personal knowledge of God and unfortunately that second hand relationship was not enough to make her know God. Therefore, when her husband told her that God promised them a child, she must have felt justified, when time was flying, to help God out a little bit.

Do we sometimes think that way too? That maybe we can help God, just a tiny weeny little bit πŸ‘ŒπŸ½. You know, give Him that push He may need.

But..... Breaking news! God does not need your help! Not in that regard ever.

Don't bother to try it.

Now, Abram should have known better. He had walked more with God, but apparently, a seed of thought was planted and he couldn't let it go. He had never considered it, but it made sense as he gave it more thought...

But wait, did he actually think because Sarah suggested it, that it would be okay? I think he should have known better.

As Christians we need to know that we cannot accept the permission anybody may be giving us to go against God's will. It doesn't matter who the person is, making it look like it's not a big deal. It is a BIG DEAL and it can never be okay to sin.

It wasn't recorded that Abram talked with God about this decision, which would have been the right thing to do as a Christian. But if we consider this situation very well, somewhere deep down, Abram probably already suspected God's kind of response and he knew it wasn't close to what he was made up in his mind to do. So, he preferred not to seek God's face about it.

You know those times when you want to do something that you already know your Dad will be against, you don't bother to tell him so that he wouldn't say you shouldn't do it. That way, you wouldn't have to disobey him. I think that's what happened to Abram.

Sometimes, we avoid praying about some decisions, because deep down we already know what God will say about it. Boya, we're now thinking that pΓ©, we can do as if we did not know that God didn't want us to take that decision, after we already did it ni. I don't know

But, I will let you know that it's not possible, God sees your heart. He knows that you know it's not right to rush and do it. That ignorance excuse will not work, and I know it can be very tempting to do things your own quick way, but please don't do it.
